Why Preorder a Book

YOU MAY BE ASKING “WHY PREORDER AND WHAT DOES IT MATTER?”

For me, this is all brand new and comes with quite a learning curve. A huge thank you to all of you who already preordered a book or two! It makes such a difference, but are you wondering why that is. I’ve had a couple people ask me what a preorder is and what it means. Preordering is a process by which you order a book before it is officially released or published. So, why preorder a book and what does it matter?

  • Often before a book’s official release, authors will have presales, where readers can preorder the book ahead of time. Many other media industries do this as well, such as video games and movies.

  • You save money! When you preorder, you purchase the book at a lower price that when officially released.

  • You get all the cool perks available only during the preorder; Some authors will give away free things to readers that preorder. Maybe it’s a short story by the author, a cool illustration, or an autographed copy of the book. The perks for this book are a low price, free gift, and a personally signed copy.

  • You contribute directly to the author’s success! New authors/entrepreneurs rely on your preorders to help choose how many to publish.

  • Debut authors especially need a solid showing in book preorders if they don’t have a big book purchasing budget.

  • Preorders numbers help an author approach a book shop and show there is interest and convince them to carry your book. (Note: bookstores have already asked to sell this book! yay!).

  • Bookstores often take 75% of profit so preorders help the new author purchase the book individually vs in a bookstore.

  • You get early access to content! During the preorder process, the author release pages, content, or photographs that no one else gets the opportunity to view before receiving the book.

  • Preorders can make the difference between a decent release day and a great one.

  • The idea of supporting authors sounds great.

  • Preordering a book means that it will be in your hands without waiting in lines or worrying if/when the book will be sold out.

  • Preordering books contributes towards the first week of sales. This means that if a writer gets enough preorders combined with those sales, they could end up in the charts, which means more publicity for their book. The more publicity a book receives, the more likely others will read it.

If you’re already thinking about owning your copy, why wait? If you preorder by April 1, 2023, you can also vote for your favorite cover photograph.
